2012 BCQS – Barbados Masters Squash

posted in: BLOG, Tournaments | 0

I just recently had the opportunity to travel to Barbados to participate in the 5th annual BCQS Masters Tournament in Barbados, West Indies. This was my third time visiting the island paradise and I honestly think it’s my favourite squash destination. The Barbados Squash Club is run by a group of wonderful volunteers that always make us feel like we’re returning home. Two of three courts are air conditioned, and one of those has a generous seating area, while the third is “as warm as it is outside”. This can often make the hottest court on Earth but it’s something you have to try.

It doesn’t hurt that the club is walking distance to one of the most beautiful beaches on Earth, Accra. Highlights of the event include a Friday night pig roast, Saturday night party at St. Lawrence Gap and a five hour catamaran cruise which stops to let you swim with turtles. No, but seriously: Turtles! Try the Mount Gay Rum (Extra Old) brown juicies, Cockspur Rum Punch, a cold Banks and flying fish sandwiches and I guarantee that you won’t want to leave.

The BCQS takes place the second week of May every year and is open to International players over the age of 35. Think of this tournament as your gift for getting a little older! (There are no juniors to run you around on court:)

Have a look at the photos and see if you agree: I’m talking #SquashInParadise
